Winter Warming Spiced Rum Toddy
A delightful hot buttered rum drink with comforting flavors of apple juice, rum, and a hint of apricot brandy, perfect for warming up during the winter.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 10-12 cloves
- 1 orange
- 4 cups unsweetened cloudy apple juice
- 1 1/2 cups white rum
- 3/4 cup apricot brandy or Cointreau
- 1 whole nutmeg for grating (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and add the cloves.
- Use a speed-peeler to strip the orange peel and add it to the saucepan.
- Once the butter begins to foam, pour in the apple juice and squeeze in the orange juice.
- Add the rum and apricot brandy (or Cointreau) to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then turn off the heat.
- Pour the hot buttered rum toddy into mugs or toddy glasses, discarding the orange peel if desired.
- Finish by grating nutmeg over each serving, if using.
