Ingredients
- 10 cardamom pods
- 15 peppercorns
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 5 star anise
- 25 whole cloves
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Zest/peel of one orange
- 1.50 cups water
- 2 tablespoons raisins soaked in rum
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 6 oz dry or semi-sweet white wine
- 1 cup apple cider
Instructions
- Combine the cardamom, peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, brown sugar, orange peel, and water in a saucepan over low heat.
- Stir until the sugar dissolves and let the mixture simmer for about 1-1.5 hours, covered.
- Strain the extract and store it in a bottle in the fridge if not using immediately.
- Heat the apple cider in a large pot, then turn off the stove and add the white wine, the extract, rum-soaked raisins, and any remaining rum from the soaking glass.
- Gently heat the wine mixture until just hot, without boiling off the alcohol.
- Add slivered almonds to the bottom of a mug and ladle the wine and raisins into the mug. Enjoy!
