Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz golden rum
  • 2 tsp orange liqueur (such as triple sec)
  • 2 tsp orgeat (almond syrup)
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 2 handfuls ice
  • fresh mint sprig, to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the lime juice, white rum, golden rum, orange liqueur, orgeat, and a dash of bitters over ice.
  2. Shake the mixture vigorously to ensure everything is well combined.
  3. Fill a rocks glass with fresh ice.
  4. Strain the mai tai into the glass using a hawthorne cocktail strainer and a fine mesh strainer.
  5. Garnish the drink with a sprig of mint if desired.
