Ingredients

  • 2-3 black tea bags
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (1-2 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water, divided
  • lemon wedge, optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place 2-3 tea bags in a heat-safe pitcher or bowl.
  2. Boil 1 1/2 cups of water and pour it over the tea bags. Let the tea steep for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove the tea bags and let the tea cool.
  4. Juice the lemons if not already done, then add the lemon juice to the cooling tea.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once the sugar has dissolved, you have simple syrup. Add it to the tea and lemon mixture. Adjust sweetness as desired.
  7. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of water to the mixture. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness. Add more water or make additional simple syrup if necessary.
  8. Refrigerate the mixture until completely cool.
  9. Serve in a glass over ice, and garnish with a lemon wedge if desired.
