Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube
  • Absinthe (for coating the glass)
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 lemon peel (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Coat the inside of an old-fashioned glass by swirling absinthe inside and then pouring out any excess.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine the sugar cube, Peychaud's bitters, and Angostura bitters. Gently muddle the sugar to absorb the bitters.
  3. Add the rye whiskey and a handful of ice cubes to the mixing glass, then stir gently for about 30 seconds.
  4. Strain the mixture from the mixing glass into the prepared old-fashioned glass.
  5. Garnish by twisting a lemon peel over the drink and dropping it into the glass.
