Ingredients

  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 5 black peppercorns
  • 4 whole allspice berries
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
  • 3/4 cup apple cider
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (2-inch) orange rind strip
  • 1 (2-inch) lemon rind strip
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons applejack brandy

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, black peppercorns, allspice berries, cloves, and cinnamon stick, and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add the apple cider, honey, vanilla extract, orange rind, and lemon rind; bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the applejack brandy.
  6. Strain the mixture and discard the solids.
