Spiced Applejack Hot Toddy

Ingredients
- 1/2 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 tablespoon dark brown sugar
- 5 black peppercorns
- 4 whole allspice berries
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
- 3/4 cup apple cider
- 1 1/2 teaspoons honey
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (2-inch) orange rind strip
- 1 (2-inch) lemon rind strip
- 1 1/2 tablespoons applejack brandy
Instructions
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Stir in the brown sugar, black peppercorns, allspice berries, cloves, and cinnamon stick, and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the apple cider, honey, vanilla extract, orange rind, and lemon rind; bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the applejack brandy.
- Strain the mixture and discard the solids.
