Ingredients

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey
  • 1/4 ounce absinthe or anise liqueur
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Instructions

  1. Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice to chill.
  2. In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube with the bitters to dissolve it.
  3. Add the rye whiskey and stir.
  4. Discard the ice in the chilled glass.
  5. Rinse the glass with absinthe: pour a small amount, swirl, then discard the liquid.
  6. Pour the whiskey mixture into the absinthe-rinsed glass.
