Ingredients

  • 2 thin slices peeled fresh ginger
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 2 ounces aged rum
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. Muddle the fresh ginger in a julep cup or large rocks glass until well crushed and juices are expressed.
  2. Add mint leaves and maple syrup, then muddle until the mint is lightly bruised, swabbing the glass's sides with the mint's aromatic oils.
  3. Add the aged rum and stir well.
  4. Half-fill the glass with crushed ice and stir to combine.
  5. Fill the glass completely with crushed ice and stir until the outside frosts.
  6. Add more crushed ice, heaping generously, and garnish with sprigs of fresh mint.
  7. Serve with a short straw for an aromatic experience with each sip.
