Ingredients
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 to 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Pinch of grated nutmeg
- 1 ounce bourbon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sprinkle of cinnamon for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until thick and fluffy.
- In a saucepan, combine the milk, cream, and nutmeg. Heat until steaming, stirring occasionally.
- Slowly whisk a portion of the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, then pour the rest of the milk in while whisking.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook on medium-low heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Do not boil.
- Strain the mixture into a bowl, then whisk in the bourbon and vanilla.
- Chill for at least 3 hours.
- Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon or freshly grated nutmeg.
