Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1/2 ounce 60% dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/2 ounces vodka (vanilla or regular)
  • 1 and 1/2 ounces dark creme de cocoa
  • 1 and 1/2 ounces half and half

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, cocoa powder, chopped chocolate, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Bring to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer and allow it to cool. The chocolate syrup can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.
  3. When ready to make the martini, fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the vodka, creme de cocoa, half and half, and 2 ounces of the chocolate syrup.
  4. Shake the ingredients vigorously, then strain the mixture into a cocktail glass. Garnish with shaved chocolate curls and a sprig of mint. Enjoy immediately!
