A decadent, boozy coffee cocktail with Irish whiskey, sugar, freshly brewed coffee, and a layer of chilled double cream, topped with a grating of nutmeg.

Ingredients

  • 1.70 oz Irish whiskey (or use a blended scotch)
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 5-7 oz freshly brewed black coffee
  • 1.70-3.40 oz double cream, chilled
  • Nutmeg, a generous grating

Instructions

  1. Fill a heatproof glass with hot water and rinse out.
  2. Pour the whiskey into the glass, add the sugar, and mix until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Add the coffee and stir.
  4. Lightly whip the cream until slightly thickened.
  5. Very slowly pour the cream over the back of a teaspoon into the glass so that it floats on top of the coffee in a layer.
  6. Grate a little nutmeg on top and serve.
