Ingredients

  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch each of allspice and cloves
  • 2 tbsp bourbon
  • whipped cream (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of sugar until light.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the milk, cream, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the spices over medium heat until steaming, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. While continuously whisking the egg yolk mixture, slowly add a small amount of the steaming milk. Gradually incorporate the milk into the eggs, then pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan while whisking constantly.
  4. Stir in the bourbon and cook over low heat until the eggnog is hot and thick, approximately 5 minutes, whisking continuously.
  5. Pour a small amount of the eggnog into a glass, top with whipped cream, and sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon.
