This Chilean Holiday Punch, also known as Cola de Mono, is a traditional Christmas drink from Chile. It combines the comforting flavors of cinnamon, cloves, and coffee with the smoothness of milk and Chilean pisco. The result is a creamy and spiced cocktail, best served cold and paired with Christmas treats.
Chilean Christmas Cheer
A creamy and spiced Chilean Christmas punch, known as Cola de Mono, featuring the comforting flavors of cinnamon, cloves, coffee, milk, and Chilean pisco.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cold water
- 1/2 oz Mexican cinnamon sticks (about 4 sticks)
- 2 whole cloves
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 1/2 oz freshly brewed strong coffee, cold
- 1 1/2 oz Chilean pisco
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes. Let it cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the syrup, including the spices, to a large pitcher. Add the milk, cold coffee, pisco, and vanilla. Stir well to combine.
- Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or transfer to glass bottles and refrigerate until chilled, for a few hours or overnight.
- Pour about 1/2 cup of Chilean Christmas punch into small tumbler glasses and serve very cold with Christmas cookies, stollen, or pan de pascua (Chilean-style fruitcake).
