Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz apple brandy (or whiskey, bourbon, or cognac if apple brandy is unavailable)
  • 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 oz blackberry shrub
  • Crushed ice
  • Fresh mint for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a nonmetal bowl or pitcher, combine blackberries, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt. Cover and refrigerate for 1 to 2 days.
  2. Transfer the berry mixture to a nonreactive saucepan and simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain the cooked berry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding the solids.
  3. Store the blackberry shrub in the refrigerator for up to 6 weeks.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, combine the apple brandy, lemon juice, orange juice, and blackberry shrub with ice. Shake well.
  5. Strain the mixture over cocktail glasses filled with crushed ice.
  6. Garnish with fresh mint.
